First elected by Tulsa County voters in January 1995, Treasurer Dennis Semler is dedicated to and successful at providing the citizens of Tulsa County with efficient, effective and transparent service. The treasurer's office has played a vital role in Tulsa County's recognition by the Sunshine Review Project with an A+ grade for openness and transparency. As a result, Semler was re-elected in 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2010 when he resoundingly defeated his opponent in the Republican primary 61% to 39%. He was re-elected in 2014 without opposition.

Semler's integrity, professionalism and dedication to ensuring that the Tulsa County Treasurer's office provide citizen's with efficient, effective and transparent services also led to recognition by treasurers across Oklahoma who elected him President of the County Treasurer's Association in 2003-2004.

As Treasurer, Semler's primary responsibility is to collect taxes certified by the County Assessor and to administer all county funds. He receives and distributes all county monies as provided by law and effectively serves as the "banker" for the county. Neither he nor his office has any control over tax rates or tax amounts.

Some of Dennis Semler's accomplishments as Treasurer include:

  • Increasing accountability and transparency of the treasurer's office by providing vital public information on the treasurer's website.
  • Reducing the cost to operate the treasurer's office by $500,000 a year.
  • Establishing a senior sales tax rebate program and working aggressively to assist seniors with the rebate.
  • Establishing temporary tax collection sites each year at various bank locations throughout the county to eliminate the need for taxpayers to commute to the courthouse.
  • Expanding taxpayer online payment options to include electronic check, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express Cards.
  • Increasing citizen services funding by filing claims in bankruptcy court for unpaid taxes and collecting more than $20,000,000 in back taxes since first elected.
  • Instituting electronic disbursal of funds to school districts to give schools quicker access to funds.
  • Aggressively marketing properties acquired by default for failure to pay taxes in advertised public auctions to return those properties to the private sector.
  • Reducing mortgage filing costs by providing electronic filing of mortgage taxes.
